CHOSEN FEW

The youth of Francois Prijt is turbulent. He grew up in the South East of Amsterdam some call it the ghetto of Amsterdam and in the year 1984 he makes knowledge with electro music and graffiti which blew over from America. This kind of music and the graffiti was very important for the rest of his music career. After his parents bought a Commodore 64 for him, he began making music. After a while he bought a Amiga 500 inspired by productions of others with this device , he completely surrendered to producing music. In the beginning, this was mainly hip hop and breakbeat and drum & bass.
In 1989, he bought his Technics SL1200 turn tables, and after practice he had the art of the mixing in his hands. At the end of 1991 François began playing hardcore, and became a resident dj in a small club on the Amsterdam red light district. On this he builds up a large multitude fans, and from that moment it goes fast.In 1993 together with DJ Dano and The Prophet he got his first booking outside of Holland to Austria, the bookings kept coming in. Hardcore and Gabber freaks globally pay homage to the name chosen few playing events such Mayday in Berlin, Mayhem and Enchanted in Australia, Thunderdome 1994 in Utrecht and 15 years of Thunderdome 2008, Hellraiser in Amsterdam and Resurrection in Scotland, the biggest club in Europe ‘Number One’ in Italy, Poland, the United States, Sweden, Switzerland etc. - the man has an ambition to visit all the biggest events in every coun

DANO

DJ Update is better known as DJ Dano.

DJ Dano is one of the founders of the hardcore scene, but has never lost his love for techno music. In the past he had his own record label, TPF records, which released with many records together with KC.

In this period he and his best friend gave many illegal/free techno parties in Amsterdam, also called TPF. These parties lasted sometimes for more then 48 hours.

Althought these parties were free to the public, TPF managed to book foreign artists such as Pounding Grooves (UK) Johan Bacto (Sweden) Andreas Kramer (D) and Kay D Smith (D) getting them to the Netherlands.

Awakenings is one of the largest techno organizations in the Netherlands, perhaps the biggest. On the website of awakenings was once a Poll, where the public was asked who they would like to see and hear playing.

Under his own name Daniel Leeflang was number one in this poll. He also played once as Daniel Leeflang at Dance Valley Indoor.

One year ago a new techno organisation started in the Netherlands: Switch music.

This organization looks at high in the public's eye and seems to be a serious counterpart to Awakenings. Switch has began its own bookings, Switch Bookings Agency. A new organization, a new bookings agency... a new name was a logic result.
I chose the name DJ Update for several reasons. Techno just keeps renewing and I want "my" audience to keep updated with my mixes, that will be refreshed regularly on th

The Twins Artcore

Giuseppe and Daniele Scaccia (Acid Zone and Danytribe),
were born on June, 1 1987, in Frosinone, near Rome.
They always loved trend music, from the Trance to the Techno, until they
discovered the Digital Boy's Extreme "world", starting to collect all
the tapes and cd's they found in the shops nearby.
After some years they discovered that all this could not be enough, so
they started the "Twins Artcore" project, in 2001.
We have to wait until 2003 to see them playing on a major console. It
was the Street Garden, in Frosinone.
After that, they played in many small clubs, until they joined the
"harfuck production" family, one of the best hardcore-party organization
of those years.
Their sets started to become popular over the net, but something was
still missing.
In 2005 they published "Tranz Lyrix", still considered teir best
production ever, and with it came also the "Twins Records" label.
After some vynils and cd's, they made their big move, who definitely
placed them in the music industry;
we're talking about the Mokum rec. contract.
Their first Mokum E.P. was named "Return of Artcore", meaning that
Artcore was not dead, was just evolving with them.
After that E.P., all the biggest Italian clubs (Florida (BS),Ecu
(RN),Adrenaline (RE),Fiorenudo (BG),Cyborg (TR),Energy (RM),Sunrise
Ranch,Bombardier,Etc...) started to contact them.
Then they have become res

The Outside Agency

The Producers

As true dissidents within the hardcore scene, The Outside Agency has always had its own unique sound. The motivation to be different yet effective was already evident on the very first releases on Mokum in the late 90s. When hardcore suffered a drastic change in direction shortly thereafter, the two members of The Outside Agency (DJ Hidden & Eye-D) no longer felt that they could operate without restraint in the genre and started focusing their attention on drum & bass. Some years later hardcore had transformed yet again, and this time they were very pleased with the direction it had taken. They quickly started producing and playing hardcore again with renewed vigor. After a string of successful releases on several international underground labels such as Black Monolith Records and Otaku Records, Cardiac Music offered them a chance to start their own label. This resulted in the founding of Genosha Recordings, which is now widely seen as one of the most influential labels in underground hardcore. With their parallel success in drum & bass their production techniques and ideas, as well as their DJ-sets started, to flow over into one another more and more. This continued crossbreeding between drum & bass and hardcore ultimately led to the start of a sister label to Genosha: One Seven Five, a label aimed at hardcore/drum & bass crossbreeds. This label, which has seen The Outside Agency collaborate with some of the biggest names in hard drum

SYSTEM 3

Piero Scarato, aka System 3 was born in 1976 in a small village near Verona, Italy. At the age of five he started playing with his father's expensive Fostex reel tape recorder and listening to Kraftwerk's "Trance Europe Express" vinyl album. For a few years he studied classical piano and singing.

His real musical career started in 1991 when he started DJ'ing and playing with an Akai sampler around in small parties and clubs. In 1994 he released his very first record, Vitamin Pills "Saturn Rings" with D. Baraldo (with whom he started this adventure) and DJ Ottomix (aka Joe Inferno), creator of many international hits.

From then on, thanks to his strong friendship with another renowned musician and producer, Mario Percali, he started making music on a regular basis, releasing tracks of different genres.

In early 1995, inspired by huge names like Marc Acardipane, the Stunned Guys, Claudio Lancinhouse and many others, he signed a contract with one of the best hardcore labels: D-Boy records.

System 3 started releasing strong music, including "Keep on fuckin'", "Da Beat", "The Devil Inside"... and following that success two new pseudonyms were created, Max E-Crew and Crime Lab. System 3 played in large parties like "Thunderdome in Italy", "Extreme" and more. After D-Boy record's experience System 3 moved to The Saifam Group and started Aeon Tracks, releasing hits like the classics "Like a

TECHNO HEAD

Lee Newman and Michael Wells formed Greater Than One in London, circa 1985. The group was created to explore art through performance, recordings, and installations. They released albums on Graeme Revell's Side Effects label, WaxTrax! and ROIR in the USA, Torso in Europe, and their own imprint, K=K.

In 1990, they started releasing singles as GTO (because it was easier to spell) and Tricky Disco (to explore more techno and house music). As the rave scene of 1991 exploded, Newman and Wells started releasing singles as John + Julie, Church of Extacy and Signs of Chaos. They would later release albums and singles as TD5, The Salami Brothers, and Technohead.

In 1995, Technohead scored a massive worldwide hit single with "I Wanna Be A Hippy." In August however, Lee Newman passed away after a brief battle with cancer.

Michael Wells continues to DJ occasionally and record music under various names including S.O.L.O. and The Man as well as many of the above.

DataFlow is considered the umbrella, as it is one of their own labels—the most common recording label their music has been issued under—and their publishing company.
Fear Factory

Fear Factory were formed in 1989 in Los Angeles by Dino Cazares (guitar), Raymond Herrera (drums), Burton C. Bell (vocals) and later Christian Olde Wolbers (bass) under the name Ulceration before switching in 1990 to their current moniker.

Influenced by British Grindcore and extreme music such as Napalm Death and Godflesh, Fear Factory's career has seen them pioneer a hybrid of Death Metal, Industrial Metal, Alternative Metal and electronic music.

Their first album "Concrete" from 1991 was not released until 2002. This was also the first production job for then unknown Ross Robinson who would later produce bands such as Korn, Machine Head or Slipknot.

Strong personal differences led to a break-up in 2002 but the band re-formed a year later minus Cazares with bassist Christian Olde Wolbers taking on guitar duties while Strapping Young Lad's Byron Stroud entered to take over live bass. Another hiatus followed in 2006.

In 2009 Fear Factory returned with founding member Cazares in the band again, but without Herrera and Wolbers.
CYANIDE

Amsterdam born and raised CYANIDE / DJ Predator, a.k.a. Stephan Scheltema, had to deal with creative mind all his life. Lost in grafitti art during his childhood, he became intrigued by early Rap music, Breakbeats, Reggae and Electro. The purchase of a Commodore Amiga in 1991, provided him with the means to experiment with beats and breaks himself. Influenced by his love for music and driven by the the rage of a young boy, he established his first release on vinyl in 1992. Over a period of six years, he managed to release more than sixty tracks, most of them on labels such as Mokum, Ruffneck, Ruff EX, Cenobite and H2Oh.
With the growth of the dance scene in general, Predators star was rising, providing him with more equipment and possibilities.
Living his dream of expressing his musical thoughts on recordings and spending all his time and money and on his studio. Hit releases like Jiehaaaa, Pump Up The Vibe and Mind Of A Lunatic brought him recognition from around the globe, resulting in live performances and DJ bookings in worldwide, from Canada to Australia, from Russia to the United States, Germany, Holland, Swiss, the UK and more.

Slowly but surely maturing his natural love for Hiphop and Breaks, these musical styles started to sneak into his productions.
Although still using a steady beat, he more and more found himself applying sophisticated drum patterns to his tracks, giving them more funk and more speed. In 1998, longing for a new creative challenge

Hakkuhbar

Hakkûhbar was a Dutch parody act, which had notable chart success in Holland in late 1996 and early 1997.
During the height of the 'gabber era', in which musically related styles like happy hardcore,
rave and gabber house enjoyed large-scale mainstream success throughout the Benelux and Germany,
Dutch singer and writer Bob Fosko (former frontman of punk band De Raggende Manne) came up with the concept of Hakkûhbar.
He recorded the song 'Gabbertje' together with his son,
a one-time member of the then-extremely popular happy hardcore act Party Animals.
The song itself was a cover of the tune to the 1960s children's TV-show 'Swiebertje' and the funny lyrics referred to the gabber lifestyle.
The single went to #1 in the Dutch charts by November 1996 and was backed by a hilarious music video.
Due to high rotation of the video, actor and comedian Ruben van der Meer (who played the character Gabbertje) became an instant celebrity.
As of 2008, Van der Meer is a celebrated comedian in his own right.
The massive and immediate popularity of Hakkûhbar was the cause for a few spin-offs to occure,
almost simultaneously. Gabber Piet, De Mosselman, Gabberwijffie and several other acts jumped on the bandwagon,
by releasing happy hardcore versions of well-known children's songs and nursery rhymes.
Hakkûhbar's 'Gabbertje' was followed by another three singles released by the band; 'Super Gabber'
(#1 in The Netherlands and based on 'Can Can', from

The Speed Freak

Martin Damm has been releasing records since 1990 under various project names, the most recurrent ones being Biochip C., The Speed Freak, and Search & Destroy. Starting off making German-style EBM techno, he soon became part of the Cologne school around Walker, and released on labels such as Monotone, Force Inc., and Dj.ungle Fever. After his increased popularity especially with the Dutch gabber scene in 1994 and 1995, Mokum and Shockwave became his home labels. His musical activities however stretch much further - tracks from his studio can be found on lots of different labels and on dozens of CD compilations. Apart from his further involvement in several labels such as Ozon (with Jammin' Unit), Napalm (plus its sublabels Agent Orange and Speedcore) and Anodyne (plus the defunct Biophobia), he is also available for live and deejay gigs. furthermore, he has started to produce his own videos and CD-ROM parts.

Part of what makes the music of Martin Damm interesting is his versatility. The tracks coming from his studio, Biosfear, stylistically stretch over the whole area of electronic dance music - going from power acid to breakcore, from drum & bass to happy gabber, from straight techno to dubby trip hop. Fans will rave about the squiggly 303 programming, the bouncy kickdrums and clattering breakbeats, the powerful and dense yet transparent overall sound, the wonderfully witty combinations and structures, the overwhelming wealth of amazing sound ideas and little

BIOGRAPHY ORLANDO VOORN

Orlando Voorn is one of the first Dutch musicians to establish a vital connection between Detroit and Amsterdam in the
early 90’s. He has long been recognized as one of the Netherland’s most original and ingenious producers in the world
of electronic dance music. Voorn began DJing at the early age of 12 years old and later went on to win his first scratch
competition at Amsterdam “Club Flora Palace”. Amazingly Voorn did this by borrowing records from his competitor.

After winning that competition he continued to practice every day and was discovered by a Dutch Radio host named
“Robin Albers” who was in charge of the Dutch DMC DJ Championship 1986. Surprisingly Voorn placed 1st in the Dutch
competitions 1986 & 1987 for Holland which placed him in the world championships of DMC twice in the United Kingdom
where he came in 3rd place 86 and 5th place 87 spinning with his own characteristic blend of hip hop, and electro music.

Towards the end of the eighties he acquired his first sequencer and turned his hand to producing his productions, his first
project was under the alias “Fixomatic” – “Hurt em Bad” the track was an old school hip hop record and sold very well for
that period of time. Voorn has a great vision for combining sounds, rhythms and key structures. When you look at Voorn’s
past it mainly consist of 2 impor

Liza 'N' Eliaz

Liza 'N Eliaz is often called The Queen of Terror. This terror-queen from Belgium can be called quite an oldbie. She started in several electro- and industrial bands, and around 1990 she got interested in hardcore. She made tracks under the name of Stockhousen ("A Fox may hunt too"). Furthermore she made a lot of productions together with people such as Dano, Laurent Ho and the Prophet. In 1997 she founded her own Provision label. Sadly, she died from Lung-cancer in early 2001, which was a big loss for those close to her and the scene as a whole.
